Roundabout day 08/08/08 08/08/08 has been declared roundabout day.
Why?
The UK has the highest rate of duty on fuel in Europe. As the price of fuel increases, the government is getting billions of pounds in increased revenue that it hadn’t budgeted for. This is having a major impact on everyone in the UK as the price of all goods are soaring to cover the increased costs being passed on to the consumer. This is in addition to the daily / weekly increase in fuel price that every motorist is having to fund every week.
The government recently increased the business miles taxable allowance for company car drivers for the second time this year. However they have kept the rate for privately owned cars at the same rate that was set in 2002.
If the government reduced the duty on fuel in the UK then they would still meet their budgets set for income from fuel duty and this would help to relieve the financial strain on most households in UK.
How?
Go about your normal business on 08/08/08 – travel on your normal route, but when you come across a round about, do not come off at your normal junction, but go round the roundabout three times.
Such a small action by so many people would have a big impact on the country and make the government realise that so many people are impacted by this. |
