Red face What are Door pillars?

Hi guys,

I am new to this whole car thing and basically need your help.

My relative has asked me to go half's on repairing a salvage car and then promises to give me half the profits when sold.

Basically I want your advice on the type of repair needed and whether I should stay clear.

The car is a 3 door hatchback and has mainly passenger side damage mainly the door and front wing, however my relative has been advised that a new door pillar/post is needed.

What is a door pillar/post and what does it do? Is it a really important part and if this needs replacing would you say the damage is really bad and I wont be able to sell on?

Hi, the door pillar/post is the part that the door hinges fit to and thus the door hangs off, it is also a main part of the structure off the body, it depends on the level of damage and the skill of the person repairing it as to if this would be a job to do or pass on.

It could be that the damage is minor to it, but if it has twisted the roof or floor it could need to be put on a jig to set up, it is hard to give any more advice long distance but hope this helps.

Again it depends on the skill and tools the repairer has the cost of the vehicle and the cost of the repairs and the a reasonable resale value bearing in mind that you should tell customers it has been written off which will give it a lower resale value. In the the present times every street corner has a car for sale on it and to make a profit depends on the desirability of the model choosen which might not necessarily what you pesonally like. Hope this helps

hi missmatch
yeah agree totaly with our members tips already given. you & partner should be very knowledgeable on this type of project car body geometry is a highly tech subject & you realy need to know what you are doing or you could lose out financially in many ways & yes pillars & posts are as mentioned part & parcel of the door hinges & acossiated frame work. anyway if you go ahead, be carefull, be money wise & above all be safe. good luck regards dj dave.
