| Fiat Punto 1.7 TD 1998 Hi all, I have found a big leak under my van 3 days ago, it only seemed to leak in the mornings when the engine is cold, Tday i took off the turbo part and found that it is a fuel leak coming out from the right side glow plug. All the other plugs seem fine. I dont really know much about cars any idears on how i can fix this my self ? i only had a service and mot done last week and even sence then i have had problems, first my breaks went, so i took it back to the garge, and now i have this leak could this be my mechanic ??? Plus i have an other problem i have a rubbing sound coming from the timming belt area after the timming belt was done from an other garage. Im having so much truble and cost with the van senice i have let 2 difernt mechanic`s done work on it. Any advice would be great., Thanks |

| dear selena i've had no exp with fiat's whatsoever. but a vast amount of exp with diesels. this is my theory ( for what it's worth ) there's not usualy any external supply of fuel to glow plugs so my guess is that the fuel is leaking elswhere & dropping / forming around the glow plug. poss leaks from injector supply pipe, or leak off rail ( ie a small pipe on top of injectors that returns excess fuel to the fuel tank. i know it must seem i'm grabbing at straws, but not being able to visualise engine layout , that ,plus my exp with diesels is all i've got to go on . hope this helps as for your rubbing noise on cambelt area, it seems the mechanic has failed to align cover correctly. if you want to try diy on this prob, i suggest you slacken cover fasteners & fractionally move cover untill noise stops & then retighten ( as a poss novice, make sure you stop engine during each adjustment as serious injury may result otherwise. back to fuel leak, try ( if not seriously restricted ) to mop up fuel around glow plug & make completely dry the area surrounding, then start engine & see if you can detect exactly where fuel is leaking from, use a small mirror if it will assist in any way ( BE EXTRA CAREFUL WITH CLOTHING / LONG HAIR NEAR ENGINES EXPOSED MOVING PARTS, FANS, BELTS ETC. & then go from there. once located & you require further assistance, i'll try & help all i can. is a replaceable fuel filter any where near glow plug location as if not replaced correctly on service, could be your prob. as for your mechanic. certain factors do seem to point his way. let me know how you get on love, kindest regards dj dave. |
