I hope someone can help me. I have a W-reg A6 1.8T. I have 1 (maybe 2) isues with it. It's done about 80k miles. The first is that, at idle the revs keep varying up and down - on the odd occasion it's led to it stalling though this is rare. I have no problems at all whilst driving it. I have tried giving it a good run but that hasn't helped and have now had the problem for several months.
2nd aspect is that every now and then it takes a long time to start. (Once or twice a week lately) - it always does start but clearly something isn't right. On the occasions when it takes a while, the engine mgt light stays on on the dashboard. But when it starts straight away which is still quite often thankfully the warning light goes off immediately after ignition (as it is meant to). Has anybody experienced these things? I met an ex-mechanic who said the 1st problem could be the flywheel ( but I can't understand that - maybe I misheard) but he didn't have a view on the increasingly poor starting. Any help welcome please. I'd like to go to a garage wth some view on where the problem could be rather than just let them loose on it.

Throttle valve/housing or linkage sticking
Throttle position sensor
Engine coolant sensor
Intake air temp sensor
air filter
Volume and mass air sensors
Manifold absolute pessure sensor
injectors
Fuel pressure regulator
Ecm
