Default engine electronic light don't work

HI, can anyone help me, my engine electronic light don't come on when the ignition is turned on, (it looks like a car with a spanner through it) i firstly thought it was the bulb, but when i checked no bulbs were being used for the warning light - i think it lights up using led lights, which are built inside the dash... I have tried changing the dash, but still the same problem. I am driving a vauxhall astra estate - and this is really puzzeling me as i can find lots of anwers on it staying on but none when it don't come on, if anyone can help i would be very greatful.. Thx in advance..

hi dave
meet another dave. it is poss that your prob lies with loose or disconnected wires / multi plugs around the engine compartment, maybe a faulty engine management control chip, or even a fuse. auto electrics are a bit out of my league, but the items i've described may be worth checking out prior to consulting a auto electrician ( leave the control chip to the sparky ). it's a possibilty that nash or costadelboy could throw some more light on your problem. do check/replace the fuse ( if it has one ), most engine management systems are fuse protected. good luck & let me know how you get on , regards dj dave.

hi thx for replying, i am taking it to the garage on Thursday so they can run a diagnosis test because prior to me buying this car i had another vauxhall astra this time the light used to come on all the time, and completely shut the engine down - i had to take it back and fourth to the garage, eventually they gave me another vauxhall astra but this time estate - before we exchanged the cars the light was working (i checked because of previous problems), then when i picked it up it next day it wasn't until i got home and my wife noticed that it wasn't coming on at all - took it back and they said they wouldn't worry about it - took it to another garage and they said that they may have disconnected it because of the previous trouble i've had with the old car (after they done alot of repair they were out of pocket and problem was still there) - could this happen??? they were suppose to run a diagnosis test but it all come back fine(surely it would have picked up something) I will let you know anyway..... The puzzle continues....

hi dave
sounds like you're having nightmares with your car, anyway advisable to let garage sort it out ( especially if it has some kind of warranty on it ). if you still have problems after all this, then give me some rough idea of your location & if practicle i may be able to put you in touch with a couple of red hot technicians, who i know from exp would be almost gauranteed to solve your prob once & for all. i will warn you though they are rather expensive, regards dj dave.
