Default re- engine management light

hi folks
my son owns a audi a3 on a 51 plate, prob as title engine management light remains on , but no other associated probs, any ideas on how to extinguish light & would any damage result by not having light put out as no other diagnostic lights appear. look forward to your solutions / comments, regards djdave.

hi there on ebay you can buy fault code readers for the vw-audi group ,they cost around £15 which plugs into the diagnostics socket and will read and clear fault codes from the engine, abs, airbag and suspension systems . these work and will switch off any lamps and will tell you where the faults are i have one of these and used it quite regularly

Default audi a3

hi nash
thanks immensly for your help on this subject. iwill pass your tip onto him & see what he wants to do. i occassionally help out with his problems, but engine electrics are getting a bit too technical for me now mate. i mean i lift the bonnett on these modern cars & hey man where do i start looking. you see i retired from motor trade in the late 70's to early 80's & as you can appreciate technology has advanced ten fold & i'm lost. however if you could give some idea as where to look for multi plug ( that hooks up to test gear ) i'd probably have a go ( always try to help yer kids aye ). but don't wanna cost him cash by messing things up ,if you know what i mean. look forward to your reply, regards dj dave.

on the audi it is usually to the right of the steering wheel around about where your knee is or sometimes it is in the fusebox it is a small plug about 2 x 1 inch and is usually orange or yellow in colour and may be covered by a blanking plate
