130 quid for a tyre and a thousand for the roof! sounds like you need to make friends with a good mechanic in a smaller local garage who will see it as his duty to work and advise you in your best interests and not just see you as a profit oportunity...

as you love minis and enjoy owning a convertible i doubt you would enjoy changing. if you was ready for a change you wouldn't have bothered posting...
you didn't say why you seem to be driving more - if it isn't for work then you could cut a lot of driving out of your life; most of us could drive a lot less with a bit of planning... if it is for providing a taxi for kids and relatives it is time to say "no" or stick your hand out for a contribution. perhaps public transport could take the strain sometimes or even using a bike for shorter journies?

how about driving more economically? assuming your car is well serviced and working properly it should be possible to squeeze a few extra miles out of every gallon just by adopting a different technique...
a rag top is not so slippery through the air as a hard top and especially at motorway speeds it is likely to be using more fuel so avoid cruising at 70 and aim for an average speed of 50 or 55 instead. apart from this your car is likely to be using an amount of fuel that is very little different from most other cars, even big cars, when driven at a constant cruising speed. it is cold starts, periods of warm-up (which takes longer in winter) and accelerating that costs the money...
avoiding short runs and generally having a gentle touch with the controls will save a great deal of cash on more than just fuel. brakes, tyres and just about everything lasts longer...

there is quite a few helpful posts about economical driving on this site already. i suggest you calculate your fueal consumption with your present driving style and repeat the exercise when you have been driving gently for a time.
