hi nash
the diagnosis of this problem can involve a stringent inspection of the underside of your car. firstly, although system looks in good order, there still maybe leaks somewhere, simple way to check, start engine & let idle, then get a colleague to hold a thick lump of rag over the exhaust outlet, while you look & listen for leaks, any significant leaks you'll find easily, believe me. then you patch / repair with the usual method ( you know - ex bandage gun-gum paste etc ). as for the under car inspection, on all cars there are ,as you know, pipes, wires etc, & they usualy pass from outside to inside in different locations around the car. they pass through rubber grommetts, which after some time perish or even get dislodged, & that is a good clue to how the smell gets inside. so mate get your overalls on & get repairing. hope this has helped , best of luck & regards dj dave.
thanks for the advice but on further inspection found that no3 & 4 injector seals were leaking allowing exhaust fumes into engine bay ind drawing it into car through heater air inlet all sorted now and punter can see where she is driving without tears because of exhaust fumes
